                                             FIX IT DAY

Yesterday, there was a fix it day in the streets of Villamayor. All the people of this town participated to clean up the parks, streets... Some people were cleaning the streets while others were watering the trees and plants around the town. There were many people so we finished very fast and we collected all the rubbish of Villamayor until there were nothing. We we grateful for all people who participated and we proposed to do this fix it day once a month.

GLOSSARY UNIT 2 

THE BIG CHEESE: is the most important or powerful person in a group or organization

CHALK AND CHEESE: we use this expression to define two people who are very different to each other

A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME: if we have some information but you don't want to reveal who told you then you use this expression

TO BE OR TO HAVE A BIG MOUTH: it means you talk to much especially about things which should be kept in secret or avoided

ALL THE COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW: it is very colourful

CHASING RAINBOWS: refers to someone who is always looking for something more exciting and rewarding but it is unlikely to find it

IF YOU ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE: you are doing something which could be dangerous

IF YOU ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE: it means you make a bad situation even worse

IF YOU HAVE A FLASH OF INSPIRATION: it means that you sudden have an idea that help you to create or achieve what you were hoping to do

A BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND: if we describe someone with this expression it means that he or she is very important or have a lot of influence but only in small area or group

COLD FISH: if someone is described with this expression it means that he or she is unfriendly and doesn't show his or her feelings or emotions

PACKED LIKE SARDINES: to describe people in a very crowded space

CHOCK A BLOCK: to describe people in a very crowded situation

LIKE A DUCK TO WATER: it means that you discover when you start doing a new activity that you are very good at it

IF YOU BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET: if you are boasting about your abilities

IF YOU HAVE A BEE IN YOUR BONNET: about something that you are obsessed of it and you can not stop thinking about it

IT IS IN SOMEONE'S GENES: when does person has the same personalities traits as theirs parents

YOU SCRATCH MY BAG AND I WILL SCRATCH YOURS: if you do something for me I will do something for you specially if it is something you would not have been able to do for yourself

IF YOU SAY DOES NOT HAVE A HAIR OUT OF PLACE: it means their appearance is very tidy or perfect

                               GLOSSARY(GEOGRAPHY)

INLET: a thin channel of water that leads inland from the sea. Inlets created by glaciation are called fjords and are usually found on mountains coastlines

HEADLAND: a small area of land that projects out into the sea

PENINSULA: a large scale headland surrounded by water on three sides. A peninsula can be connected to the land by a thin stretch of land called isthmus

ISLAND: a piece of land completely surrounded by water

GULF: an area of sea surrounded by land on three sides. A bay is similar but smaller

OCEANIC RIDGE: an underwater mountain range that generally covers a large area and reaches high altitudes

OCEANIC TRENCH: a long depression on the ocean floor that can be deep

ABYSSAL PLAIN: a flat area on the ocean floor, they are found at depths of between 3000 metres and 7000 metres

CONTINENTAL SHELF: the under sea extension of a continent that descends gradually to depths of around 400 metres. The shelf can be extended by few or many kilometres

CONTINENTAL SLOPE: a steep underwater area that links the continental shelf with the oceanic floor

MOUNTAIN: a large land form that is higher than the surrounded land. A mountain is a continuous chain of mountains

BASIN: an area of land that is drained by a river or a lake and that is lower than the surrounding area

VALLEY:  is a linear depression in the land

PLATEAU: a flat area of land which sits a certain altitude above the sea level

PLAIN: a larger, open, flat or slightly undulating area of land

CLIFF: a high, steep or overhanging face of rock

MASSIF:  a large mass or compact group of connected mountains forming an independent portion of a range

Curitiba is one of the cleanest country in the world, this country uses a lot the public transport, the air that you breath in this country is very healthy and clean.
This country is very recycling because Jaime Lerner made an ecological city and won many awards, for example in 1990, this country won two international awards.
This country use clean techonologies too, that do not generate toxic waste. Curitiba recycles  the waste in a exemplary way and it is in the third place in the list of the 15 green cities all over the world.
Curitiba contributes to the recycling trash and if you will go to Curitiba you will not see any trash in the ground.
